Program Information 

Health Science

CTE Health ScienceA two-year program that introduces the many career opportunities in healthcare.

Skills & Theory is designed to prepare students to render care in a variety of health care facilities as a nursing assistant and Patient Care Technician. The program builds on skills and theory related to a variety of health science fields. For example, the course comprises of entry-level skills related to anatomy and physiology, frequently seen abnormal conditions, use of medical terminology and basic nursing skills focused on care of the elderly.

In conjunction with supervised clinical experience, this course prepares efficient and caring members of health care teams.

Students’ participate in year 2 clinical settings at hospitals, nursing homes, physicians’ offices, clinics, and community agencies.

All students are given the opportunity to participate in a Work-based Learning experience, which exposes them to the operation of a business and specific job duties related to careers in their CTE area. This internship is designed to connect the skills and knowledge learned in the CTE classroom with the real world requirements of the healthcare setting.

Certification & Endorsements:

  • Alabama Certified Nurse Assistant
  • Certified Patient Care Technician (Nation Healthcare Association)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED

Students completing the program successfully qualify to work as:

  • Patient Care Tech
  • Nurse Assistant
  • Personal/Home Health Aide
