Program Information 

Public Service - Law Enforcement

CTE PSA LAWA two-year program for students interested in careers in law enforcement, investigations, security, corrections, courts, law, social work and counseling, or other related fields.

Students participate in mock trials, crime scene investigations, accident investigations, crime scene sketching, budget development, police reports, educational field trips, and community service projects.

The curriculum is presented through classroom instruction, computer based learning, and hands-on related activities and labs.

Curriculum includes enrichment activities such as field trips and hands-on forensic evidence collection.

All students are given the opportunity to participate in a Work-based Learning experience, which exposes them to the operation of a business and specific job duties related to careers in their CTE area.

  • History and Foundations of Law Enforcement
  • Code of Ethics
  • United States Legal System
  • Elements of Crime and Categories of Punishments
  • Interviewing and Interrogation procedures
  • History of Crime and Corrections
  • Safety
  • Criminal Law
  • Interpersonal Communications and Relations with Others
  • Crime Scene Search
  • Patrol Techniques
  • First Aid

Certification & Endorsements:

  • First Aid
  • CPR
  • Emergency Care Provider
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Students completing the program successfully qualify to work as:

  • Security/Protection Officer
  • Corrections Officer
  • Police related fields upon successful completion of Alabama Police Officers Standard Training Commission (APOSTC)
