Program Information 

Cosmetology

CTE CosmetologyA two-year, 1,500-hour program dedicated to training students in the area of appearance enhancement. The program prepares students for current and emerging careers in the beauty industry. Students learn the hands-on skills necessary to pass the Alabama State Board exams, the skills to become a successful professional in the field of cosmetology.

Combines crucial elements of art, science, technical skills, interpersonal skills, and entrepreneurship. Students work in a full-service clinical salon environment that provides real-world experiences to gain knowledge while providing customer service including technical skills and consultations. Students develop business skills as well as management skills helping them to become successful salon and spa professionals. Students use product lines used in current salon industry such as Redken, Wella and Matrix providing valuable experience that translates to more job opportunities.

Students are trained in haircutting, coloring, texture services, nail technology and skin care service. It includes theory, hands-on training, giving a complete understanding of the beauty and spa industry.

The program is aligned with the requirements of the Alabama Appearance Enhancement Licensing requirements.

All students are given the opportunity to participate in a Work-based Learning experience, which exposes them to the operation of a business and specific job duties related to careers in their CTE area. This internship includes financial management, professional development, on the job training designed to connect the skills and knowledge learned in the CTE classroom with the real world requirements of a business.

  • Hair Styling Techniques

Certification & Endorsements:

  • Upon successful completion of the 1,500 clock hours, students are eligible to apply for an Alabama Licensing exam. Upon completion and passing the Alabama written and practical examination students will receive a cosmetology license.

Students completing the program successfully and passing the Alabama exam qualify to work as:
